The Leicester – Warren Hall was made possible by a Deed of Gift from Lt Col J L B Leicester – Warren TD,VL,JP,MA,PGD, and a Past Deputy Provincial Grand Master of the Province of Cheshire, with the aim that Freemasonry in Knutsford should at long last have a home of it’s own.
This Deed of Gift embraced some 5000 sq yds of land formerly attached to White House Farm together with a shippon with loft space, two loose boxes, a Dutch barn, and an implement shed.
The initial surveys revealed the magnitude of the task ahead of them if the building was to be converted to a Masonic Hall, but with professional and specialist labour, and a lot of voluntary labour provided, and monies raised, by members of the de Tabley group of Lodges and Chapters, work started on Sunday 23rd June 1968.
There are many unusual features in the Hall not to mention the panelling at the east end of the hall formed by cut outs from television cabinets so common in the 1960’s, and, the cinema seats given to the Hall.
The Dedication of the Lodge Room at the Hall took place on Monday 8th September 1969 by the then Provincial Grand Master R W Bro Arthur A Johnstone.
So, the building, somewhat extended from those days still provides an atmosphere and impression of a place dedicated to something far more than a social gathering place.
